Khmer Pchum Ben Festival

Pchum Ben is culturally and religiously important festival for Cambodian. When the day of Pchum ben is coming, we see Cambodian people wear traditional clothes go to pagoda with some delicious food in order to offer to the monks. For example, my mother always goes to pagoda with different meal and some fresh fruit. As we are in pagoda, we will see much delicious food, some fresh fruit, and other things in front of the monk such as cake, Aonsorm, tea, sugar, cigarettes, and many other things for the monks. In the afternoon, after the monks finish having lunch, people always waiting for the monks preach dharma. This festival starts on the first to fourteenth on the waning moon, which are call first Ben, second Ben, third Ben…. The important day celebrate on fifteenth on the waning moon. We celebrate this festival to concentrate on blessing the souls of ancestors, relatives, and friends who have passed away.  The majority of Cambodian people visit their family temples during this period to make traditional offerings and prayers. In conclusion, this is a good khmer Buddhism’s habit from the ancient time. I think, Cambodian people will not forget Pchum Ben festival.
